As a tiny fairy in Smalland: Survive the Wilds, having a place to call home is essential to survive the harsh world.

You’ll likely find yourself making quite a few outposts and bases to help make the trek across the map.

In this survival guide, we’ll go over two main locations that you may want to use for your first base in Smalland: Survive the Wilds.

Head To The Left of the Giant Owl Statue

As a first, temporary, base you’re looking for a place that is close to the starting point but also within reach of early-game resources.

To reach this ideal location, you’re going to need to head out of the safe, starting, zone and into the wilds themselves.

When you first leave the safe zone, you’ll see a large statue of an owl sitting on top of a log.

Head to the base of the owl statue, then take a left with the river on your left side.

You’ll eventually come to a clearing with a small beach.

A small, sandy, beach with some pebble stones on it and a sprig of a leaf. Clear, blue, water is on the other side of the beach.

You’ll likely also see a grasshopper.

This area is great for a first base because it’s close to sources of food, early-game resources, and is also relatively safe.

The only danger is a grasshopper who comes out at night.

He will most certainly attack you and your base if he spots you.

If you’re playing on single player, then you just need to sleep before he comes out to avoid him.

If you’re playing co-op, then both players need to sleep before he comes out.

If you’re playing on a large server, then it’s better to build your base across the water on the left-hand side or east-side on the map.

You can build a small bridge to get over the stream, then build your first base on the beach.

This area is great as a first base, but you may not want to make it your permanent base since it is far from some story quest locations.

Try To Claim A Great Tree

If you’re playing single player, then you have the opportunity of claiming a Great Tree right from the start.

It’s a dangerous journey to get there, but it isn’t impossible.

You’ll need to head to the giant owl statue to begin your journey.

Head left and pass by the friendly grasshopper and up a hill.

You should see a large log that is laying like a bridge over the river.

A mossy log with a tiny, male, fairy with blue hair running on it. A bunch of mushrooms, brown, growing on it. In the distance, trees, branches, and other green foliage.

It should have a ton of edible mushrooms growing on it.

You’ll need to run past a few bull ants to reach it.

Cross the log to the other side.

If you look left, you should see a large tree with a ton of mushrooms growing out of it.

Head that way and start climbing the mushrooms.

You need to reach the very top of the tree to claim it as your own.

You’ll know you’ve reached the top when you’re at a large, flat, spot where you can build.

There will also be a statue of a gnome there that you use to claim the Great Tree.

The Great Tree is a great place to build because it’s safe.

Nothing can reach you up there.

If you’re playing co-op, then each person can own their own Great Tree.

It’s possible to set the tree to public, so everyone can build there.

That goes for large servers, too.

If the Great Tree is public, then you can build a home up there, too.

Otherwise, you may have to find another place to live.

The Great Tree is great for both a first base and a permanent base.

Conclusion

The bugs on the forest floor can be very aggressive to your character.

These two locations are ideal both for starting out and for a permanent base.
