Like any other survival game, building a base is essential for survival in Smalland: Survive the Wilds.

Knowing how the building mechanics work can help you start to build impressive bases.

In this survival guide, we’ll go over the building mechanics in Smalland: Survive the Wilds as well as offer some tips.

Craft A Builder’s Hammer

Before you start building a base, you’re going to need a hammer.

To do so, you’re going to hit the “Tab” key to get your inventory and crafting menu.

Navigate to the “Crafting” section and locate the builder’s hammer.

You’ll just need two fiber and 5 wood to create it.

Once you’ve crafted the hammer, you’ll need to put it in your hotbar and equip it.

Start With Foundations And Work Your Way Up

With your hammer equipped, you’re going to want to right-click on your mouse.

That will bring up the Structures menu where you can find all the items you can build.

Over time, you’ll unlock more recipes to build.

Starting off, you’re going to want to go to Foundations and build your first foundation.

You’ll notice that a single foundation costs two wood and one fiber.

You’ll need to have the wood and fiber in your inventory to build.

Then you just snap it where you want.

The snapping can be a bit finnicky, so it will take a bit of practice.

Once you have the foundation down, you can start playing with the different types of walls, then finally enclose it all with a roof.

Tips For Building in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

In Smalland, uncovered structures take damage every time it rains.

As such, it’s important that you build a roof over all your bases.

You can repair broken items, however, by equipping your hammer and pressing the “R” key.

If you do so before the structure becomes too damaged, it won’t cost you any materials.

You can also dismantle a wall or structure by pressing the “C” key.

You’ll get back at least half your resources to build it.

The physics of building is quite generous.

You can get away with a few unsupported ceilings and such, but you will eventually need to provide some support.

Conclusion

Building your base is a fun and creative venture.

With the know-how and tips in hand, you can create some unique bases.
