The shovel is a useful tool that you’ll need to access maintenance bunkers and dig up graves for resources and quest items.

Getting the shovel isn’t easy as you’ll need to pass through a cave filled with enemies to reach it.

In this survival guide, we’ll show where to get the shovel in Sons of the Forest.

For a quick visual walkthrough, watch the video below!

In order to proceed through the shovel cave, you’re going to need a few items.

The first is the rope gun which you’ll need to cross over a gap in the cave.

You’ll also need the Rebreather since part of the cave is underwater.

Since there are enemies in the cave, it’s also a good idea to stock up on weapons, ammo, medicine, and other items to make combat a bit easier.

You’ll also want an explosive of some sort, either a grenade or C4, to exit the cave later, so make sure you have at least one on hand.

Now that you’re properly equipped, you’re ready to head into the Shovel Cave.

The shovel cave is in the middle of the map and to the west of the snowy mountains.

The easiest way to get to it is to follow the big river to the east from the 3D Printer bunker.

This bunker is the flashing green circle on your GPS when you first land on the island.

You’ll find the shovel cave next to a few smaller streams that run south of the big river.

You’ll know you’re in the right area if you spot a bunch of dead soldiers in the stream just outside the cave.

Break the wooden panels with your axe, then proceed inside.

The shovel is all the way in the back of the shovel cave.

To get there, you first need to cross the chasm with the rope gun.

When you drop down, you’ll need to head to the water and use the rebreather to swim down a hole.

When you emerge, you’ll have a hallway full of Puffies.

Kill them and make sure you grab the wetsuit along the way.

You’ll eventually come to a slide that will take you down into more water.

Head out the tunnel until you come to a place that’s lit up and has Puffies in it.

Kill them or run past them.

The next big room will have Twins, Fingers, and babies within it.

At the center of the room, near bodies, is the flashlight attachment and a laptop containing the GPS location of Maintenance Bunker A.

Stick to the left wall until you come to an opening.

There should be babies by its entrance.

Follow this narrow passage until you come to more water.

Swim through and when you emerge, you’ll have a ton of Puffies and a Fingers to fight.

You can also force them into the water by aggroing them and having them drown.

Once the area is clear, head up the ramp and stick to the right wall.

At long last, you’ll come to the final room where you’ll find the shovel in the far back.

It’s guarded by a lot of babies and a Twins.

Grab the shovel and head back the way you came.

It’s not easy getting out of the shovel cave.

To get out of the shovel cave in Sons of the Forest, you’re going to need to backtrack from whence you came.

You’ll go all the way back to the area that was lit up with Puffies.

This area was just before the flashlight attachment.

When you leave that room, there will be a big explosion to your left.

A blob mutant will have crashed through and is now stuck.

Take your grenade or C4 and blow it up.

The mutant will explode and you’ll be able to pass through the hole it left behind.

The only major concern in these tunnels is babies, so run through until you get to the exit.

You’re now free of the shovel cave with the shovel in hand.
