While you can simply repair outposts in Return to Moria, you might be wondering how you can build your own base.
Once you reach a certain point in the game, you’ll be able to unlock blueprints that allow you to start building your dwarven stronghold.
In this survival guide, we’ll go over how to build an advanced base in The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria.
And if you want to see this process in-game, then be sure to watch the video below!
How To Unlock Base Building in Return to Moria
Now, you won’t be able to start building your base in Return to Moria until you progress to a certain part in the game.
Luckily, that part isn’t too far into the game.
You’ll need to speak with Alric the Raven for the second time.
Your dwarf will mention a nearby dwarven outpost that they can rest in.
Head to the outpost and repair the stone hearth with 10 stones.

Once it’s repaired, you’ll unlock a number of recipes with base blueprints being among them.
You can now access the build menu (B key) and look at the different building blueprints available.
How Do You Build with Blueprints in Return to Moria
With the blueprints unlocked, you’re now able to start building more advanced bases.
To begin, press the “B” key on your keyboard to access the Build Menu.
Head to the “Wood and Stone” area to see all your new blueprints.

You’ll have a number of floors, walls, and pillars that you can use to build.
Select one, then left-click where you want it to go.
It works on a snap system, so you’ll want to move floors and walls close to each other for them to snap together.

You can also use your middle mouse button to adjust where the blueprint goes.
Hold down the left Shift button while scrolling if you want to change the blueprint’s height.
When you’re happy with where it is, left-click, and the blueprint will become a solid part provided you have the resources in your inventory.
Why Can’t I Build in Return to Moria
You might notice that you can’t put down walls and pillars just anywhere in Moria.
You can’t build in Return to Moria because you may be too far from a stone hearth.
The stone hearth is the heart of your base.
You can’t build anything without one near.
So, if you’re trying to build too far from one, then you’re going to receive an error.
Fixing this problem is easy.
You just need to build a stone hearth close enough to the area where you want to build.
It can be costly to build a stone hearth from scratch, however.
It requires the following resources:
- 18 stone
- 15 coal
- 20 wood scraps
Once that’s built, you should be able to build around it or close to it.
