If you want to start smelting ore, then you’re going to need a furnace.

Not every outpost comes with a furnace, however, so it’s worth knowing how to repair and build one.

In this survival guide, we’ll show you how to repair or build a furnace and make iron ingots in The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria.

Whether you’re going to repair an existing furnace or build a new one, you’re going to need a stone hearth.

The stone hearth allows the crafting stations to work.

So, first build one of those, then you can repair or build a brand new furnace.

To repair a furnace, you’re going to need 15 stone.

If you want to build a brand new one, then you’re going to need 20 stone.

Clearly, building takes a few more resources.

Once the furnace is built, you’re going to need to look for ore.

With your furnace ready to smelt, you need to gather ore for it to smelt.

Iron ore is going to be one of the first types that you need to find.

Luckily, if you’re at the first dwarven outpost in the game, then it’s pretty easy to find.

Head to the right once you exit the outpost.

On the far wall, you should see an area with a rust-colored section.

This is iron ore.

Gather your pickaxe, then start chipping away at the wall.

You may need to do a quick-platform with the “V” key to get areas that are higher up.

Chip away as much iron ore as you can, then return to your outpost to smelt it.

With your ore and furnace, you’re now ready to make some iron ingots.

Access the furnace’s crafting menu, and click on the desired ingot that you want to make.

In this instance, we’re going to make iron ingots.

We need three iron ore to make one iron ingot.

We’re also going to need coal to fire up the furnace.

Since it’s one coal per round of smelting, it’s a good idea to make as much iron, or other, ingots in one queue as you can.

This will help reduce how much coal you end up needing.

After you click the craft button and give the furnace its coal, you need to wait a few seconds for the ore to smelt.

Once that time is over, you can grab the new iron ingot and add it to your inventory.
