You’ll need to travel to the Western Halls to gain access to Erebor Armor in Return to Moria.

The Western Halls comes after the Elven Quarter, so once you dig through the dirt with your steel pickaxe, you’ll find yourself in the right area.

The statues within this area are key to unlocking the recipes for the Erebor Armor.

You’ll need 20 stone to repair each statue as well as a steel hammer.

The problem with the Western Halls is that there are so many statues scattered about them.

It can take some time to unlock all the armor pieces.

There are also other items like steel weapons that you can also unlock in the process.

So, you’re going to need to do some exploring, and gathering stone, to unlock all the armor pieces.

Each armor piece also has two recipe fragments.

So, you’ll need to repair at least two statues to complete a single recipe.

The armor recipes you can unlock in the Western Halls include:

  • Erebor Ringmail
  • Erebor Plank Gauntlets
  • Erebor City Watch Helmet
  • Erebor Boots

Each armor piece must be crafted separately.

They all use the same crafting resources but have different quantities.

The good news is that you can craft the armor at your forge in your own base.

You don’t have to travel to the Great Forge of Narvi, for example, just to craft them.

Here are the crafting requirements for each piece of armor:

  • Erebor Ringmail: 4 Steel Ingots, 4 Hide, 4 Cloth Scraps
  • Erebor Plank Gauntlets: 2 Steel Ingots, 2 Hide, 2 Cloth Scraps
  • Erebor Boots: 2 Steel Ingots, 2 Hide, 2 Cloth Scraps
  • Erebor City Watch Helmet: 2 Steel Ingots, 2 Cloth Scraps

Craft each one at your forge, then equip it to gain its armor rating.

Erebor Armor is a Tier II armor set found in the Western Halls.

It’s an upgrade over the Iron Hills armor, Tier I, armor that you find at the Western Gate area.

Despite being Tier II armor, you’re still able to move relatively freely within it.

It doesn’t eat into your stamina use that much.

More importantly, it boosts your armor rating to two.

This means that enemies will need to eat into two “blue bars” before starting to impact your health.

The armor set makes it a bit easier to take care of threats in the Western Halls area.

It’s an ideal armor for the Bolgakh boss fight since it gives you a bit more room for error without dying immediately.

Before you descend deeper into the mines, it’s definitely worth crafting and equipping the Erebor armor set.
