You’ll come across broken Map Stones in the various settlements and outposts throughout Moria.

You can even find some in important locations like at the mine hoist over the Crystal Descent.

To repair a Map Stone, you typically need at least one Black Diamond and a certain number of stone.

In some cases, you may only need stone.

The number of stone you need varies based on the Map Stone, so it’s a good idea to bring a few dozen, just in case.

While repairing Map Stones tends to be less expensive, you can also build them.

To build a map stone, you’ll need three Black Diamonds and 20 Stone.

You can place a Map Stone anywhere you have a hearth.

So, you can basically set up a fast point area anywhere you like.

This can make quickly traveling to certain areas for certain resources a lot faster.

That said, since it does require Black Diamonds, it can be expensive to start building Map Stones everywhere.

Using a Map Stone is extremely easy.

You just need to remember to activate it after either repairing or building it.

To activate it, simply interact with it once.

You should see at the bottom right of your screen that your dwarf has found a Map Stone.

Press to interact with the Map Stone again, and a menu will appear showing the different Map Stones that you can fast travel to.

Fast travel works by moving you from one Map Stone to the next.

So, if the other Map Stone is broken, not activated, or simply not there, then you won’t be able to fast travel there.

Another great benefit of fast-traveling is that you don’t drop items.

In other survival games, like Ark, you typically drop your items when you fast travel.

That isn’t the case with Return to Moria.

You’re able to bring your items with you.

That makes fast-traveling to gather ore or other resources in another area so much faster.

So, build your Map Stone and make navigation in Return to Moria that much easier and pleasant.
