There are tons of Pals to capture and enjoy in Palworld, but not all of them are worth focusing on early in the game.
If you want to get a head start in Palworld, then it’s worth knowing what Pals can help you with that head start.
In this survival guide, we’ll examine the 10 best starter Pals in Palworld.

1. Foxsparks – Cook and Smelt Faster

Foxsparks is one of the first Pals you’ll encounter in Palworld.
Its blazing tail and feet make it stand out immediately.
Besides being an adorable fox, of which I’m particularly fond of, Foxsparks can ensure everyone stays full at your base.
It’s able to use its fire abilities to cook food faster.
On your own, it can take a long time to cook food, especially if you have a larger number of berries or eggs to cook.
Aside from cooking, Foxsparks can also smelt ore.
Once you have a furnace built, it can turn your ore into ingots.
It’s also not a bad base defender early-on.
2. Lamball – The “Dodo” of Palworld

While the Foxsparks has a very specific job that it’s good at doing, the Lamball is a bit more diverse.
It’s also one of the first Pals you’ll likely capture.
The tutorial for the game even encourages you to capture five of them.
Lamballs are helpers and gatherers.
They can join you when building a structure to make it go faster.
They’ll also run around your base and collect wool, berries, wood, stone, and basically anything else it can grab.
It’s extremely easy to capture a Lamball, too, so it’s a great beginning Pal that can make life at your base a bit more efficient.
3. Pengullet – A Duo-Element Pal Ready for Anything

Besides being adorable, the Pengullet is one of the few starter Pals that actually has two Element types.
It’s both a Water Type and an Ice Type.
That means it’s capable of performing tasks that require Watering and Cooling.
You likely won’t need Cooling until later, but if you grab the Pengullet early-on, you’ll have that need covered later on.
As for Watering, the Pengullet is extremely helpful for farms.
It will water your different plots to ensure everything grows to its maximum yield.
Aside from that, you can catch Pengullets helping around the base.
They’ll even help you make structures.
Because of its variety of different talents, it’s hard not to imagine a base without a Pengullet.
4. Chikipi – You’ll Never Go Hungry Again

Along with Lamball, Chikipi is one of the early-game Pals that are easy to catch.
They don’t do much in terms of productivity at your base.
Nor are they great fighters.
That said, Chikipis can ensure no one goes hungry at your base.
That’s because they passively lay eggs.
Your Pals can pick up the eggs and store them in a Feed Box for the Pals to eat.
You can also have your Foxsparks cook the eggs into a meal to satisfy more hunger.
They lay a decent number of eggs each day, too.
So, it’s possible to take some fried eggs with you, too.
With a Chikipi waddling around your base, you’ll never be low on food.
5. Vixy – Unearth Secret Treasures

According to the Paldeck, Vixy is the icon of the island.
I certainly can’t argue that they’re adorable Pals.
They’re also very useful.
Besides shedding wool, which you can turn into cloth, Vixy are capable of looking for treasure beneath the ground.
When wandering around your base, they’ll have a chance of digging up a random item.
It may be ammo or gold or even a free Pal Sphere.
Whatever it is, it’s a free item that you’re able to claim.
I love having a Vixy out just digging up items for me since it’s one fewer thing I need to make.
6. Gumoss – Your Resident Farmer

Because farming early-on in the game is important, you’ll want a Gumoss.
Farming is crucial because it ensures you and your Pals stay full.
The more Pals you have, the greater the demand on food is going to be.
But you don’t have time hanging around and planting your farm all day.
Gumoss can do that for you.
It’s a greater starter Pal in Palworld because it’s easy to catch and find.
It spawns in the starter region, so you’re likely going to encounter a few along the way.
The Gumoss can take your seeds and plant them in the various plantation plots you have.
From there, the rest of your Pals can ensure the crops grow well.
7. Rushboar – Your Everyday Miner

One of the first aggressive types of Pals you’ll find is a Rushboar.
It has a charge attack that can send you flying when hit.
Despite its aggression, it’s still worth capturing a Rushboar because it’s a great early miner.
When you set up a stone pit, the Rushboar will throw itself headfirst into the rocks over and over.
In no time, you’ll end up with more stone than you know what to do with.
It also isn’t too shabby at defending your base either.
8. Eikthyrdeer – A Headbanging Lumberjack

One of the toughest starter Pals to capture is the Eikthyrdeer.
It has several attacks, including a charge attack, that can knock out most tamers and Pals.
That said, they’re worth the capture if you can pull it off.
They’re great at chopping wood, so once you have a Logging Site set up, they’ll go to town on it.
Literally, they’ll bash their antlers against the trees like they’re attending a metal concert.
They’re a decent defender, too, so it’s not a bad idea to have one or two around to keep your weaker Pals safe.
9. Malpaca – Ride Around in Style

Malpacas are a tad easier to capture than Eikthyrdeer, but only because they have fewer attacks.
That said, they do hit hard, so if you’re looking to capture a Malpaca, consider a ranged strategy.
Malpacas don’t offer much beyond what other, easier, Pals can do at your base.
But they are a great starter mount.
You can unlock a Malpaca’s saddle at level seven, so you don’t have to wait long to have something to ride around the map.
They’re reasonably fast, have decent health, and they can defend themselves pretty well.
If you’re tired of walking all over the place, then consider adding a Malpaca to your starter list of Pals to capture.
10. Lifmunk – The Catch-All Pal

I both love and fear Lifmunks.
On the one hand, they’re a great Pal because they can do so much.
They’ll take care of your lumbering, gathering, planting, and even medicine production.
On the other hand, if you give them a gun, there’s a chance they might turn on you.
So, if you don’t mind a bit of a gamble, then you might want to capture a Lifmunk and let it basically run the place.
No task is too big for this particular Pal.
