If you’re one of the million players loading up Palworld for the first time, then it’s worth knowing the ins and outs to start off strong.

Palworld holds your hand for some of its mechanics, but if you want to be the master of the server, then it’s worth knowing the best way to start your first day in the game.

In this survival guide, we’ll lead you through the top tasks you should complete on your first few days in Palworld.

1. Build a Primitive Workbench and Make a Torch

When you first start the game, you come out wearing nothing more than a towel around your waist.

When night hits, you’re going to end up freezing to death.

Literally.

If you want to avoid that fate, then build a primitive workbench at the first opportunity that you can get.

You’ll need it to build a torch.

A torch will help you survive through the night since it staves off freezing.

After making your torch, dismantle your workbench so others can also make use of the area.

2. Explore the Area for Free Items

Now, it’s time to explore the vast world that Pocket Pair has created.

The starter region is relatively safe for beginners to explore, and I highly recommend looking around because you can find free items.

There are Pal Spheres just laying on the ground, for example.

You can even find treasure chests with even better items hiding in them.

While exploring, don’t forget to interact with Eagle Statues that you encounter.

They unlock fast travel points which could become useful in the event of your death.

Exploring can also help you scout out base locations or discover new Pals.

Palworld rewards exploration, so take some time to get to know your new home.

3. Capture Pals

Now, it’s time to do what the game is all about–capturing Pals.

During your exploration, you may have picked up Pal Spheres.

You’ll use these to capture Pals in the world.

However, you can only capture a Pal whose health is low.

It can be tough, especially if you’re using Pals, since it’s possible to knock out the creature instead of capturing them.

It takes some practice, and there are better Pal Spheres out there, too.

There are plenty of Pals to catch, but I recommend starting with Lambell to get the hang of the mechanic.

Then go ahead and try a Foxsparks as it makes a decent defender and attacker early in the game.

Now that you have some Pals, it’s time to give them a home.

4. Find a Base Location

A bit of thought should go into where you want to place your base.

You can’t build just anywhere in Palworld, after all.

It all centers around your Palbox.

There’s a circle that the Palbox generates, and you can build your base within the circle.

If you want another base location, it’s possible, but you’ll need to level up your current base first.

Or, you can dismantle the whole thing and start over.

When it comes to an ideal location, a large, flat, area is the best.

Slopes tend to be difficult to put structures on, and your Pals can find it difficult to walk up steep slopes.

Most flat areas tend to be taken on multiplayer servers, so you may need to travel further to find an ideal spot.

Once you’ve found the perfect location, build a Palbox.

All excess Pals will store in here.

You’ll also only be able to pull out a certain number of Pals according to the level of the base.

From here, however, you can build up your base how you like it and start your real adventure in Palworld.
