How To Unlock the First Age Crossbow in Return to Moria

You’ll need to head to the Lower Deeps if you want to access the recipe for the First Age Crossbow.
The good news is you won’t need any updated gear to repair the statues you find in the Lower Deeps.
Repairing them is even relatively cheap at 20 stones per statue.
The bad news is that the First Age Crossbow has three recipe fragments.
So, you’ll need to repair at least three statues to unlock its recipe.
But considering how many recipes you can unlock with the statues in the Lower Deeps, you’ll likely end up repairing far more.
Each recipe fragment has a chance to drop, so you can never be certain which one you’re going to get.
Load up on stone and bring your steel hammer to start repairing the statues in the Lower Deeps to get your hands on the First Age Crossbow recipe.
How To Make the First Age Crossbow in Return to Moria

Much like making bows in Return to Moria, you’ll need to make the First Age Crossbow in the workbench.
A standard workbench will work just fine.
You’ll need the following resources to make the First Age Crossbow in Return to Moria:
- 2 Silver Ingots
- 1 Ruby
- 8 Ubasam Wood
- 3 Natural Fiber
Rubies you can collect by defeating orcs in the Lower Deeps.
You can also find them in chests at orc outposts.
Natural fiber you can collect in troves in the Lower Deeps.
Once you have all you need, you can access your workbench and craft the First Age Crossbow.
What Does the First Age Crossbow Unlock

You’ll notice after you craft the First Age Crossbow for the first time that a new recipe will unlock.
You can now make First Age Bolts.
These are vital pieces of ammo for the First Age Crossbow.
You can’t use arrows or even Elven Arrows with the crossbow, so you’ll need to make plenty of First Age Bolts to go with it.
First Age Bolts require 1 silver ingot and 10 Ubasam wood per 15 bolts.
So, every time you make a set, you’ll get 15 in that set.
First Age Bolts are a Tier III ammo type that can deliver a decent amount of damage to your enemies.
What Does the First Age Crossbow Do
If you’re unsure whether you should make the leap from your hunting bow to the First Age Crossbow, then it’s worth knowing how the crossbow differs.
The crossbow is particularly good at breaking an enemy’s armor.
Once the armor is broken, you can use another weapon to damage the enemy directly.
Armor can greatly reduce your damage, making the enemy die slower.
So, using your crossbow to first remove your enemy’s armor is a great way to kill your enemies faster.
Some enemies also have natural armor, so you’ll want to get rid of it as soon as you can to deliver more damage to them.
Make your First Age Crossbow and see just what a difference it can make for you in the Lower Deeps.
