Depending on how your exploration goes in the Lower Deeps, you may need to do some digging before you find the Great Drain Pipes.

It took one of my dwarves a long time to find them.

I ended up searching through every room before finally discovering the Great Drain Pipes.

On my other save file, I ended up discovering them relatively shortly during my exploration.

In short, you’ll need to dig through the Lower Deeps various tunnels and chambers before you find a large room with water in it.

A boss fight also keeps you from reaching the Great Drain Pipes, so you’ll need to take care of that problem before proceeding.

Then you’ll need to build piers and quick platforms to get across the body of water to the facility.

Once you’re there, you’ll discover that the Great Drain Pipes are broken.

They need some replacement parts.

So, it’s time to start repairing.

Repairing the Great Drain Pipes requires two main phases.

The first is to replace broken parts with the replacement parts that exist at the facility.

You’ll find a gear, for example, and one pipe at the facility.

You can use these spare parts to fix up whatever part of the facility you want to repair first.

There’s only one section that needs a gear, so that one is an obvious choice.

As for the pipe, I tend to just put it in the closest area that requires a new pipe.

The second phase is making the replacement parts.

You’ll have three pipes that require a replacement pipe.

The good news is that you unlocked the recipe for these parts back when you repaired the Great Forge of Narvi.

So, head back to your base and forge a new replacement pipe.

It costs five iron ingots to make each pipe, so you may need to do some mining or smelting beforehand.

The good news is that you can fast travel with the replacement pipe in your hands.

The bad news is that you can’t run or jump while holding the pipe.

To ensure you don’t drop the pipe into the water and lose it forever, you’ll want to go over your path across the water to the drain facility.

Is it level?

Are there any gaps?

If there is a gap, then your character will fall through and the pipe will be destroyed, requiring you to make another.

With a level, smooth, path, you can make it to the other side without incident.

I always throw my pipe when I’ve reached the other side onto the platform above.

You can press the “R” key to throw, too.

From there, you may need to make a few more platforms that allow you to easily ascend up to an area to replace the pipe.

Once every pipe is replaced, you can activate the drain by interacting with a lever on the side of the device where you put the replacement gear.

The pumps will start to remove water, allowing you to proceed down the Pilgrim’s Path.
