It can be tough to survive in Palworld.

Shields make that process a bit easier.

In this survival guide, we’ll explain what shields do in Palworld and what different types exist.

How Do Shields Work in Palworld

Shields in Palworld don’t act like a typical shield you might have with a sword.

It’s more like an accessory.

There’s a slot for your shield in your inventory, and once it’s equipped, you basically have a shield around you.

You don’t see the shield, but it’s there.

Its job is to absorb damage as you take it.

Each shield has a certain amount of damage it can take, before it fails.

At that point, the remaining damage starts to go toward your health.

So, the better the shield is, the more damage it can absorb.

There are two types of damage that the shield won’t absorb, however.

When you’re starving and dying from hunger, the shield can’t absorb that type of damage.

So, make sure you feed yourself!

The other type of damage is fall damage.

Even if you jump off a cliff, the shield won’t protect you from the damage you receive.

Shields also regenerate after not taking damage for a certain amount of time.

It’s a good idea to quick dodge out of the area to let your shield replenish before getting back into the fray, if you can.

There are four types of shields in Palworld.

They include:

Common Shield
Mega Shield
Giga Shield
Hyper Shield

Here’s a table on how to unlock and craft each one.

Clearly, the more advanced the shield is, the more expensive it is to make.

Ancient Civilization Parts come from bosses that you defeat throughout Palworld.

You’ll need to fight a number of bosses to accumulate enough parts to make the more advanced shields.

Considering shields make it more difficult for Pals and thugs to defeat you, however, they’re well worth the investment.
