What Is Essence

Essence is a type of currency that you can use to spend on certain things.

It isn’t money, exactly, but traders do want it, and you’ll want it, too, for its different purposes in the game.

Lore-wise, no one comes right out and explains what Essence exactly is.

That said, it’s easy to guess that Essence is basically like a living creature’s spirit or life force.

You exchange it for certain things, and there’s likely a general idea that the person with the most Essence has a lot of power.

What Does Essence Do in Nightingale

There are three main actions that Essence has.

The first is to trade it.

There are Essence Traders throughout the Realms that will exchange blueprints and items for Essence.

Some prices can be steep, so you’ll want to hold onto Essence when you can.

The second thing Essence does is repair your items.

You basically use Essence to restore any damage your items and armor have taken.

The more damaged something is, the more Essence it will require.

You can repair everything at once, which costs more Essence, or repair things one at a time as needed, which is much cheaper.

The third use that Essence has is in upgrading weapons and tools.

You can make the items uncommon, for example, for a certain type of Essence.

Keep in mind that Nightingale is still in Early Access, so it may add other uses for Essence, too.

How To Get Essence in Nightingale

As important as Essence is, there are lots of different ways to farm it.

The first is by defeating enemies out in the wild.

They have a chance of dropping Essence.

The easiest way to farm enemies is by completing different Bastions.

There are Bastions of Intellect and Bastions of Might scattered about the various Realms.

Completing this often yields Essence as a reward.

Fey Towers and Fey Portals are other ways to farm Essence.

You’ll have to complete puzzles and enemies to advance and eventually defeat the challenge.

You’ll receive a good amount of Essence as a result.

Occupations are another challenge that gives Essence as a reward.

You typically have to defeat all the enemies in the area or protect some sort of artifact for a limited time.

A final way to get Essence is to complete Challenges.

The game doesn’t always tell you that you completed a challenge, so check in now and then.
