How To Unlock Balin’s Company Shield in Return to Moria

Balin’s Company Shield is easy to miss for players who don’t like to complete everything.

You’ll only get the recipe for it by opening Fundin’s Muznakan chest.

As a Muznakan chest, you have to find all of Fundin’s carvings, then place them on the chest.

There’s a specific number that you need to find and replace.

Once you find them all, you can open the chest and receive the recipe for the shield.

If you’re unsure where to find the chest or carvings, check out our Fundin’s Muznakan chest guide here.

After having the recipe unlocked, you’ll need to head to your forge to make the shield.

Just a normal forge will do, so if you don’t have the Khuzdul Forge made yet, you’re in luck.

To make the shield, you’ll need the following resources:

  • 6 Steel Ingots
  • 6 Ironwood

Steel ingots are easy to get by this point in the game.

Ironwood is a bit more complicated.

You can find it on pallets throughout Dwarrowdelf, but you’ll likely need to start harvesting it at some point.

You can follow our ironwood guide here for more tips on how to harvest it.

When you have everything you need, craft it in the forge.

Balin’s Company Shield Stats

The Balin’s Company Shield is a Tier II shield, which puts it ahead of some of the earlier shields.

Its biggest bonus is its ability to do an improved shield base.

Enemies will take a bit more damage whenever you bash them with your shield.

While I still prefer to use my Masterwork Shieldwall, the Balin’s Company Shield is a great upgrade from most other shields.
