To craft leather, you’ll need hide, but not just any hide.

You need two of the same type of hide to make one leather.

So, if you have a hide that belongs to a prey creature and a hide that belongs to a predator creature, you won’t be able to make leather out of them.

You need two of the same type.

So, two hide that come from prey creatures will do and so will two hide that come from predator creatures.

It’s a bit confusing how it works, and I hope that the devs change this aspect about leather in the future.

Hide is just hide, after all.

There’s also hide called Fabled hide, which makes sense why that might be a higher tier hide, but if it’s the same tier in terms of quality, I feel players should be able to make leather out of it regardless of if it came from a prey or predator creature.

Either way, you need two hide to make one leather.

You make leather at the simple tanning station and any upgradable versions of the tanning station.

If you don’t have the tanning station yet, then you’ll need to buy the recipe from an Essence Trader.

Leather is a crafting resource used to make all types of items.

Most often, it’s used to make new clothes and backpacks.

Since better clothes give you better armor, leather is a pretty important resource to stock up on.

So, start hunting down some animals and gather plenty of hide to make leather for better gear.
