No dwarven experience is ever complete without its own stronghold to build and defend.

In The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, you have two main ways to build a base.

In this survival guide, we’ll show you how to build a base using those two methods.

To see the process for yourself, be sure to watch the video below!

There are two ways to build a base in Return to Moria and one of those is free-form.

You’re able to snap different blueprints together to form a base.

Now, you won’t be able to start building your stronghold from the start.

You need to progress into the game a bit first.

Once you start the game, follow the tutorial until you speak with Alric the Raven for the second time.

Your dwarf will make a remark about resting in a dwarven outpost nearby.

Find the outpost and rebuild the stone hearth with 10 stones.

With the stone hearth unlocked, you’ll unlock the base-building blueprints.

The stone hearth is the heart of your base, and you can’t build without one made.

With it now repaired, you’ll be able to unlock the building blueprints and start making walls and floors.

Build to your heart’s content!

Now, if you don’t want to spend a lot of time perfecting your stronghold, then you may want to just repair dwarven outposts on the go.

This is the second way to build a base in Return to Moria.

You’ll also need to progress through the game until you reach Alric the Raven and find the old dwarven outpost.

Fix the stone hearth with 10 stone, and the outpost is basically ready to go from there.

Many outposts will have a few crafting benches that are in disrepair.

Repair them to start using them.

In your first outpost, you’ll find a furnace, forge, and Mapstone to repair.

Other outposts might not have all these items, so you’ll want to plan carefully what outpost you want to restore and which ones you want to passby.

The Mapstone allows you to fast travel from one location to the next, but you’ll need both operational.

That said, once you have those going, you can easily travel from one outpost to the next.

Just using the outposts alone is a good way for those who want to navigate quickly through the tunnels and caverns.
