Leather isn’t a type of resource you can gather from an animal early on in Return to Moria.

If you want to start crafting leather as soon as possible, then you’re going to need to build the loom.

The loom is a crafting station that enables you to craft various types of cloths and fabrics.

You can even use it to make Hide from Hide Scraps.

Once you build the loom and set it down in your base, you’ll notice a number of recipes become unlocked.

Leather is one of those recipes.

When you access the loom, you’ll see the recipe for the leather under the “Materials” section.

To craft leather, you’ll need the following resources:

  • 1 Hide
  • 3 Salt

Hide you can harvest from the white deer and goats that spawn in the Elven Quarter and Mines of Moria.

You can also craft Hide in the loom.

Salt you can find in the Lower Deeps.

It’s noticeable by its white color on a rock surface.

You’ll need a Tier III pickaxe to harvest it.

With your resources on hand, you can return to the loom and craft some leather.

Why You Should Craft Leather in Return to Moria

Leather is a required resource for crafting certain types of clothes, armor, and weapons.

You won’t be able to make some of the more advanced items without leather.

You’ll also notice that after picking up leather for the first time, it will unlock the recipe for the Brewskin item.

Since the Brewskin is an incredibly helpful item, I certainly can’t explore without it, it’s worth crafting leather even if simply to unlock the Brewskin recipe.

Leather has quite a few uses, so make your loom, gather your resources, and make as much as you need.
