Durin’s Axe is an ongoing quest in Return to Moria.
The third fragment is a challenging piece to collect, but with the right strategy, you can claim it as your own.
In this survival guide, we’ll show you where to get Durin’s Third Axe Fragment in Return to Moria.
Where is Durin’s Third Axe Fragment in Return to Moria

You won’t find accessing the third axe fragment very easy.
First, you need to find it, and that’s not easy to do with how extensive the Lower Deeps segment of Return to Moria is.
Since each section is randomly generated, you may need to travel quite a bit before reaching the right part of the cave system.
So, dig through each section until you come to a large area with a patrolling troll.
You should see if it contains Durin’s axe fragment by a glowing outline.
The problem is that the area is usually patrolled by a troll.
You have two options.
You can run in and grab the fragment, then rush out before the troll can kill you.
Or you can kill the troll and get to the fragment at your own pace.
I recommend killing the troll if you have the means to do so.
That’s because Durin’s third axe fragment is also in Shadow.
You’ll need to dart in and out real fast to get it to avoid becoming Shadowcursed.
You can also potentially build a path above the Shadow with some wooden supports, but if the troll is alive, you can bet it’s going to start destroying them and you.
To destroy the troll, I recommend using the First Age Crossbow and at least 100 First Age Bolts.
It’s not a bad idea to have a Hunting Bow and some Elven Arrows on hand, too.
Then dig yourself out an area where you can easily duck, because the troll will send boulders flying to you.
Peek out of your hiding whole when you can and shoot the troll.
It has a ton of health, so you’re going to need a lot of bolts to take him down.
Try to aim for its head, too, as it does more damage.
When the troll is finally down, you can enter the area and make your way to the glowing box.
Either build a path with wooden platforms or just dart in and out of the Shadow quickly to grab the axe fragment.
You should now have three out of five axe fragments.
