To unlock the salt bath, you’ll first need to repair The Great Forge of Durin.

There are a few steps to this process that also includes a boss fight.

The Troll King stands in your way, and it can take some clever planning to defeat him.

Once he’s fallen, however, you’re able to start repairing the forge.

Just replace the missing parts, and the forge will activate.

Once you repair the forge, several recipes will become unlocked, one of them being the salt bath.

To craft the salt bath in Return to Moria, you’ll need the following resources:

  • 10 Adamant
  • 3 Sunstone
  • 12 Salt

Sunstone can be hard to get your hands on initially.

You’ll need to travel deeper in the Desolation area to make your way to Barazinbar.

You can also sometimes find sunstone in the Dark Deeps, but that’s riddled with dangers and isn’t for the faint of heart.

Once you have everything you need, set the salt bath down where you like it.

It’s not a large structure like some of the other crafting stations.

The salt bath has one purpose and that’s to take Gundabad Slag and turn it into Durinul Iron Ingots.

These types of ingots are basically a sacred metal that Durin I, himself, smelted.

So, if you want to make some late-game items, you’ll need the salt bath to turn your slag into ingots.
